Students at Florida A&M University returned to class on Monday while police continued investigating a shooting near the campus that left 12 people injured, six of them children.

The shooting happened Saturday near Bragg Memorial Stadium, after the university's homecoming football game. As of Monday, no arrests had been made.

FAMU President Marva Johnson said counseling services will be available to help students work through any trauma from the incident. In a video posted on social media, she emphasized unity at the school. "We are FAMU-ly at FAMU, and our pride, our identity and our future will not be defined by the challenges we face, but how we respond to them together," Johnson said.

Johnson also stressed in a video statement that the shooting took place off campus. "To be clear, this situation did not occur on our campus," she said. Because of that, she explained, the Tallahassee Police Department is leading the investigation to find and arrest those responsible, and the department will determine what led to the event. Even so, she said, healing will take place as a university.

She added that she is grateful to the law enforcement officers who responded quickly and who are now running the ongoing investigation.

Tallahassee Police Chief Lawrence Revell asked for the community's patience in a separate video. "I understand that our community wants answers, and so do we," Revell said. He noted that some details cannot be shared at this stage of the investigation, but he promised that officers are "working nonstop to bring those responsible to justice."

Police are urging anyone with information about the shooting to come forward. The department has set up a tip hotline at 850-891-4610. People who prefer to stay anonymous can call Crime Solvers at 850-574-TIPS.

Investigators are also encouraging anyone who has photos or videos from the incident to share them through the police department's submission link.
