Jordanian authorities detained three men on Monday in connection with the deadly shooting at a Greek Orthodox church. The Public Security Directorate announced the arrests following a confrontation at dawn in the Karak governorate, located south of Amman. All three suspects sustained wounds during the operation, while no members of the security forces were injured.

The initial attack occurred on Friday in the village of Hammoud while a funeral was taking place inside the church. Reports indicated that three men participated in the shooting. Karak contains a small Christian population, and the incident has drawn national attention. No group has claimed responsibility for the violence, and no armed organization has been publicly accused of leading the plot.

Interior Minister Mazen Al-Faraya confirmed that the three arrested individuals were the ones responsible for the incident. Speaking to the state broadcaster Al-Mamlaka by phone, he stated that security services had fulfilled their duties to capture the perpetrators. He described the suspects as having put up fierce resistance before being subdued and taken into custody with severe injuries. Al-Faraya noted that the men had been identified early in the investigation.

The Public Security Directorate released a statement asserting that terrorism has no place in the country. The directorate described the men as having met their just fate, according to Reuters. The agency reported that the directorate did not name the suspects or link them to specific Islamist militant groups. King Abdullah II directed authorities to respond with an iron fist against those he described as the outlaws of Islam and anyone seeking to undermine the unity of the Jordanian people.
