College football Week 9 brings a slate of matchups where the SportsLine computer model sees potential for upsets. The system, which runs 10,000 simulations for every FBS game, currently holds a 68-59 record on its top-rated picks.
The model projects Oregon to beat Northwestern 30-22 on Saturday, October 31. Oregon enters the game as a 3.5-point favorite. The projection suggests Oregon will cover the spread 61% of the time, while the over on the 47.5-point total hits 60% of the time.
The Ducks arrive in this game after firing offensive coordinator Drew Mehringer following a 21-10 loss to Illinois. Oregon has three losses on the season. Northwestern comes in with a four-game winning streak against Ball State, Michigan State, Rutgers, and Penn State. However, the three Big Ten opponents in that stretch hold just one combined conference win.
Week 8 resulted in defeats for top-10 teams BYU, Ole Miss, and Texas Tech. Cincinnati, which beat Texas Tech, now hosts No. 6 Utah on Saturday. Utah is a 6.5-point road favorite in that contest. Other key spreads include No. 13 Texas Tech as a 3.5-point favorite over No. 22 Arizona and USC as a 6.5-point underdog against No. 2 Ohio State.
Games begin earlier in the week. On Wednesday, October 28, Kennesaw State visits Middle Tennessee, where the host is a 2.5-point favorite. Jacksonville State plays at New Mexico State, with the latter team a 3.5-point underdog. Thursday, October 29, features FAU at North Texas, a 13.5-point favorite, and Troy at James Madison, a 21-point favorite.
Friday, October 30, includes Tulane at Charlotte, Baylor at UCF, and Kent State at Sacramento State. The main Saturday slate features Notre Dame at Navy, with the Irish favored by 30.5 points. Auburn visits Ole Miss, South Carolina visits Oklahoma, and Clemson plays Florida State. Miami faces North Carolina, while Mississippi State visits Texas, where the Longhorns are favored by 20.5 points.
All odds cited are from FanDuel and are subject to change. The SportsLine model backs several underdogs to win outright in Week 9, though the full list is available through the service.
